Due to upcoming San Francisco runway closure United Airlines has taken measures to offer their customers alternative flights. At the very moment United Airlines is the only to do so.
Taking into account the fact that San Francisco International Airport joins hundreds of different destinations within and out of the U.S. its runways require maintenance from time to time. This time it is going to be 28L one. It is going to be closed for 20 days starting from September, 7 and up to September, 27.
The airport minded the summer season and winter holidays such as Christmas when choosing the dates for closing the runway. Moreover, for maintaining the repairing properly it is necessary the weather to be hot and dry. So, September is the best bet for laying the asphalt. To implement the project the government will fund $16.2 million USD dollars.
The closure of the runway in question will not only influence the operation of the flights from it but as it intersects with the two other runways their operation will be influenced as well.
That is why the airport wants the airlines to lessen the amount of flights to fly to the airport and offer their customers alternative ways of getting to their destinations. It is expected that the flights will experience about two-hour delays.
44% of all airport traffic to and from San Francisco International Airport consists of flights operated by United. Thus, they assist their customers in rebooking and finding alternative ways. Such measures will help to reduce travellers’ unpleasant experience.
