A reservation number vs ticket number

A reservation number vs ticket number

Keep in mind that before setting off to the airport that it is necessary to check your reservation to match an actual ticket number. Otherwise, you might pay $1,200 for the same-day flight.

While booking a flight a passenger as a rule is emailed a confirmation number. The ticket number is a six-character code. But it does not mean that it has a ticket itself but just a hold on flight. So, a passenger has to get a ticket number. Only in this case it becomes valid.

For instance, a passenger travelling to Spain has shared his experience. They were going through check-in procedures. But it proved not to have such names listed. Not having been emailed any ticket number confirmation for his flight though they had choosen seats months earlier. In fact, Iberia requested via the email the passenger to call and confirm his identity to pay award taxes. But the email happened to be in the junk mail. So, he was not charged from his card.

It often happens due to missed emails and failures to provide necessary information.

As a rule, a passenger gets an email with a confirmation code and another one with a ticket number. It may happen at once or within 24 hours.

In order not to experience such issues check on the ticket number next to your name in your reservation. If a group of people is travelling there is one reservation number and the number of ticket numbers corresponds to the total number of passengers. In case a passenger is not provided with a ticket, it is necessary to contact the airline. If the check-in procedure is available to a passenger, it as well means that the ticket is valid.

Advice for all travellers, make sure to have a confirmed ticket before setting off to the airport.
