Some travellers feel annoyed being seated next to a crying baby onboard. The airline has found a way to work it out. It is launching a special feature in its booking system.
According to the Japan Airlines JAPSY the feature will show the seats where young children are seated during the flight. The baby icon will be shown near those seats indicating a traveller with a child. But it will be shown in case a child is less than two years old. So, a passenger will see seats occupied by travellers with babies and will have an option whether to seat next to them or choose a distant one.
But the icons will appear only if the flight tickets are booked directly via Japan Airlines. If a passenger buys them as a package tour so he/she won’t be able to see an icon. Or if a passenger buys tickets with his/her frequent miles, so there is no icon for him/her as well.
Though at the same time Japan Airlines has notes that if there is an aircraft change which may take place after booking the child icon information may not be accurate.
This airline is not the first in its desire to make their passengers feel at ease when there are baby passengers onboard. For instance, in 2016 Indian Airlines IndiGo implemented the idea of ‘quiet zones’. There were seats which couldn’t be occupied by children under 12. And some airlines had an option of child-free seats but for an extra charge.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation there are a lot of complains from families travelling with children. They find it next to impossible to find seats for them being able to travel sitting together. And some of them even have to pay extra charges to be seated together. That is why now family seating policies are going to be reviewed for the airlines to have more family-friendly ones.
