Flight MD-88 operated by Delta Airlines had to close engine in emergency situation on July, 8 on its way from Atlanta to Baltimore. Due to technical issue, to be more precise, engine failure issue, the plane made its way to Raleigh. Eventually, the plane landed safely, no injured were reported.
The passengers of the flight in question were in deep shock during their flight from Atlanta to Baltimore. As it was reported the pilots got an indication of possible engine failure. Thus, a diversion followed. In accordance with the video available on social networks, a part of the engine came off and stuck in the inlet of the engine.
It is a daily flight. As a rule, it takes off at 12.14. And it takes about an hour and a half to get to the destination. But on that day the departure time was 13.00. So, there was a delay.
It seemed that the flight was going as usual. But in an hour in the air there was an indication of engine failure. Therefore the plane turned and landed at Raleigh. The flight was carrying 148 passengers. There was a replacement for the plane given at the airport.
A rep for Delta Airlines apologized for the emergency situation and stated that it had been due to engine failure indication. So, the crew made a decision to divert the airliner in the interests of the passenger’s safety. The landing was safe.
The aircraft MD-88 is 32.4 years old. Many airlines are phasing out these planes from their fleets. Delta Airlines is not an exception. They are going to substitute all the aircraft in question by new ones till the end of 2019.
