Some airlines have decided to let their customers cancel their flights if their destination is the Dominican Republic. Thus, they have a possibility to choose other routes not paying any fees. It is due to several deaths of American travellers in the country.
The representative of Delta Airlines says that taking into consideration 10 deaths of American tourists on the island, they will cooperate with their customers to find an appropriate option.
And their travellers are able to change their tickets. They will not be charged any fees.
A representative of JetBlue commenting the situation says that they are acting in the interests of their passengers. Their safety and of crew members is of top priority for them.
So, travellers can rebook their flights heading to the Dominican Republic. But if that is not an option for them, they can cancel their flights. In this case, they are sure to get bonuses for future flights with JetBlue. The company is cooperating with the U.S. Embassy and local authorities. As it wants to keep its finger on the pulse with the situation.
As for American Airlines, it tries to solve the matter with each customer individually.
The FBI has joined the investigation of the cases of deaths of five American tourists in the country. Right now poisoned hotel liquor is being looked into.
In total, for the past year ten American tourists have died at popular tourist resorts. According to repoerts, the sickness starts with pain in abdomen, nausea and excessive sweating. It may be caused by the liquor consumption from minibars.
