Airlines cancel flights over Iran due to heightened tensions

Airline companies have cancelled or used another route for flights flying over Iran due to a tensed situation. The main reason is that Iran shot down the US drone. It happened on Wednesday.

So, acting in the interests of their passengers’ safety about seven airline companies have made changes into their routes to avoid the air territory controlled by Iran.

Airlines took such measures after US Federal Aviation Administration prohibited US commercial flights from a small territory of Iran’s airspace. It was done on Thursday. Moreover, a lot of airlines are about to take severe measures and restrictions.

The following airlines have cancelled or diverted their planes: United Airlines, British Airways, KLM, Malaysia Airlines and others.

As for United Airlines, it has cancelled its flights to Mumbai from Newark for safety reasons. A representative of the company says that they are cooperating with the government to find a solution. As for its customers who remain in Mumbai and want to return to US the company may assist in booking an alternative flight.

British Airways says it is teaming up with governments around the world for the sake of its passengers’ safety to avoid risks at the destinations it operates.
