Travellers are advised to mind airlines’ travel money rates. As they may have to pay extra charges.
Ryanair has a practice of applying its own currency. That is why Consumer group Which? is appealing to aviation authorities to bring out regulations to prevent companies from doing so.
The research held by the group has shown that travellers’ total payment included extra an extra £30. They paid for their flight via Ryanair’s dynamic currency conversion. To be more precise, the company applied its own exchange rate to convert the payment into sterling.
It is always advisable to pay in local currency letting Visa or Mastercard use the conversion by itself. For example, buying a flight from European city to another one and then back to the UK the total sum is in euros. But when a customer has to enter card details it ends up switching the payment amount into pounds. So, Ryanair applies its own exchange rate.
Only in case of pressing for more information, it is possible to find an option of paying in euros instead of pounds. Thus, this switch from one currency to another is not so clear and easy to find.
The Civil Aviation Authority is about to take action to stop such Ryanair’s policy in terms of currency rates. But still the company is let get away with it.
Ryanair insists on its conversion is not at odds with EU and national laws on customers’ rights. Moreover, passengers have an option of choosing a currency of their cards.
Nevertheless, holiday makers should always be attentive making a payment. It is necessary to remember that the best bet is to pay in local currency.
