Delta staff lined up to honour the memory of a soldier who had been missing since WWII. His remains in a box covered with an American flag were taken out of the plane at Atlanta airport.
The same day, the Delta Honor Guard stood straight to witness the arrival of the remains of another American soldier. This soldier lost his life being on duty during an accident. His remains were carried off the Delta aircraft. He is to be buried in his hometown.
The Delta Honour Guard includes staff who are volunteered to accompany all the aircraft with the remains of soldiers who lost their lives while on service. As the plan lands, they march carrying flags from the five military branches. Afterwards, they tell a prayer and the casket is put into a special Honour Guard transport to be transferred to family or a final flight home. The aim of the Delta Honour Guard is to show respect to those who sacrificed their lives.
They have transported more than 5, 000 for 14 years. The starting point was in Atlanta but now it includes Delta airports of Minneapolis, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.
Moreover, Delta attracts veterans to become the members of their company. The company employs more than 10, 000 veterans. The airline believes it to be its duty and honour to support those who serve and have sacrificed for their country. They just deserve the best.
