A fire started during the flight. In fact, it is a portable battery to blame for setting a seat on fire. Thus, Virgin Atlantic<\/a> had to land in an emergency situation on Thursday in the evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The flight was heading from from New York\u2019s JFK Airport<\/a> to London Heathrow<\/a>. Due to these circumstances it had to make an emergency landing at Boston\u2019s Logan Airport<\/a>. The plane was carrying 217 passengers. All of them were safe after landing.<\/p>\n

The cabin crew managed to deal with the fire. After getting to the airport the plane was thoroughly looked into. As a result wires were found and a battery with an external phone charger between cushions of the seat.<\/p>\n

It is still being investigated why the battery caught on fire. But there are certain factors of up-to-date batteries which can cause fire. For instance, far a lot of current may be in a battery, it can be overcharged and when it becomes way too hot it may catch on fire. Though these batteries include safety measures preventing them from catching on fire. Often they fail. <\/p>\n

According to the US and Europe regulations, airlines prohibit portable lithium ion batteries in checked baggage. As for hand luggage it is okay to take them but again there certain restrictions. They are restricted to of 100Wh, or up to 160Wh. But a passenger should get an approval from the airline beforehand.<\/p>\n

Moreover, some countries prohibit portable battery charges while onboard because of safety measures.<\/p>\n
