Twitter is buzzing. The concern is a breakdown of GPS\/ADS-B which happened last night. It led to U.S. flight cancellations. <\/strong><\/p>\n

As the FAA claims some planes having the Rockwell Collins GOS 4000-100 and ADS-B installed experience some issues. These indicators do not respond properly. The planes with foul transponders were navigated by the FAA before their departures. And they are requested not to fly higher than 28,000 feet.<\/p>\n

Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast is responsible for sending flight data to the ground services. Its functioning relies on GPS. The problem occurred with incorrect data received from GPS.<\/p>\n

It may be due to inappropriate GPS date or software upgrade. But no confirmations have been made yet. What is still obvious is that the problem resulted in the cancellations of a great number of flights. Delta<\/a>, American<\/a> and United<\/a> had to cancel approximately eighty regional flights.<\/p>\n

The FAA commenting the situation said, <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are trying to figure out the reason. It might be either software update or aircraft navigation system.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In case the GPS system breaks down, the crew will have to count on previous navigation systems. But these systems are out of date. So acting in the interests of passengers\u2019 safety the majority of flights have been grounded.<\/p>\n
